In the beginning

Several years ago, I read a quote by James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, which resonated with me: “Instead of working toward retirement, work toward your ideal lifestyle.” My ideal lifestyle was working for myself, from home, doing work that excited me. However, the things I was passionate about didn’t seem to offer a marketable business. So, when our children went off to college, I went off to work. After all, that was the plan. Until…

My brother had been in conversation with the owners of a hydroponic greenhouse of which we had been happy customers. However, they were selling the greenhouse, and while my brother had a strong interest in buying the greenhouse, he didn’t have the time to add that to his full-time farm operation.

Groundbreaking at our house

We couldn’t do this without by brother who has agricultural expertise, the know how to troubleshoot, and the right equipment for the job! We came with a shovel.

After a brief conversation with him about the greenhouse, my wheels were churning, and this seemed like a perfect fit to achieve my ideal lifestyle. Watching seeds come to life and flourish into nutritious food fascinates me and brings me so much joy!

So, after a short time back in the corporate world, we took the leap, bought the greenhouse, and moved it to our property.

Five months after putting in my resignation, we had our ribbon cutting ceremony and planted our first seeds. We could never have been here without the incredible help and kindness from so many wonderful people.
